WESTFIELD, Mass. – In its first meet in over a year, Simmons swimming and diving opened the 2021-22 campaign on a high-note with a 153-126 dual-meet victory over Westfield State University, Saturday afternoon. The Sharks claimed nine of 16 events, including the 200-yard free relay.
The Sharks 200-yard free relay A-squad of Kimmy Colbert, Emma Serth, Hailey Stuck and Lauren Howard touched the wall with a time of 1:49.60, six seconds ahead of the Simmons' B quartet (Julia Perconti, Ella Harmon, Jordan Bradford, Camelia Hannah)'s 1:55.11.
Junior Eva Piernas performed well in the distance events. Piernas finished first in the 1,000-yard free, touching the wall with a time of 11:54.82, 80 seconds ahead of Westfield's Lauren Harkins, while placing second in the 500-yard free, finishing with a time of 5:44.23.
First-years Camelia Hannah and Ella Harmon secured first place finishes in the sprint backstroke and butterfly, respectively. Hannah won the 50-yard backstroke with ease, touching the wall in 30.60, while beat out the Owls Katherine Ferri for first in the 100-yard back, clocking in at 1:07.87. Harmon clocked in with a time of 29.15 in the 50-yard butterfly and a time of 1:05.08 in the 100-yard fly.
