SwimDive Remains in Sixth Place Following Day Two Finals of the MIT Winter Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Simmons University swimming & diving team remained in sixth place following the second day of competition at the MIT Swimming & Diving Winter Invitational at the Al '51 & Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool in Cambridge, Mass. 

The Sharks currently have 177 points, while first place Tufts University sits on top of the leaderboard with 1223 points.

Senior Áine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) scored in two different individual events for Simmons, placing sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.37 to better her prelim time by nearly a second. Scholand also tallied points in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:00.44 to place 14th and best her prelim time by almost a second and a half. Sophomore Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) buried her prelim time in the 400-yard individual medley by almost six seconds with a time of 4:42.27 to finish in 11th place, while senior Laura List (Bedford, Mass.) picked up points for the Sharks with a 13th-place showing in the 50-yard freestyle on a time of 25.01. She also finished 23rd in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 2:01.23. Junior Anna Leedham (Lowell, Mass.) contributed by finishing 17th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:16.62. 

The Simmons divers also chipped in to the team's scoring column with junior Sara Manjikian (Belmont, Mass.) racking up 191.30 points on the three-meter board to finish 11th and senior Cristina Samaniego (Avon, Conn.) finished 15th with a total of 163.25 points on the three-meter board. 

The Sharks relay teams picked up points on the night as well. Scholand set the pace as the lead-off leg in the 200-yard freestyle relay, followed by junior Olivia Walz (Natick, Mass.), sophomore Lauren Howard (Abington, Mass.) and List in the anchor leg to close out a time of 1:40.02 to finish 12th. Simmons closed out the night with additonal points in the 400-medley relay, led by List in the opening backstroke, followed by first year Katelyn Quinlan's (Haverhill, Mass.) breastroke and Singleton's butterfly. Scholand hit the wall as the anchor for the Sharks to give them a combined time of 4:09.60 and a 17th-place effort.

Simmons will conclude the three-day meet beginning with tomorrow's 10:00 a.m. preliminaries.
