CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Simmons University swimming & diving team saw xx swimmers qualify for tonight's final heats, following the preliminaries this morning/afternoon at the MIT Swimming & Diving Winter Invitational at the Al '51 & Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool in Cambridge, Mass.  

Senior Áine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) qualified for multiple events in tonight's finals, clocking in at 1:56.29 to place ninth in the 200-yard freestyle, before finishing 23rd in the 100-yard backstroke to earn a spot in the finals as well.

The top 30 in each event qualify to compete in the final heats, with the top 20 having the opportunity to score in the meet. Junior Anna Leedham (Lowell, Mass.) led the Sharks in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing 16th with a mark of 2:18.28, while first year Sophie Stevenson (Orefield, Pa.) placed 22nd with a time of 2:49.49. First years Katelyn Quinlan (Haverhill, Mass.) and Meg Driscoll (Haverhill, Mass.) each qualified for the finals of the 100-yard breaststroke with Quinlan posting a time of 1:10.65 to place 22nd and Driscoll coming in 26th with a clip of 1:11.60.

Simmons will send a pair of relay teams to the 200-yard freestyle relay finals. Scholand led off the event, followed by junior Olivia Walz (Natick, Mass.), sophomore Lauren Howard (Abington, Mass.) and List to combine on a time of 1:41.17 to place 13th. The Sharks had three first years and a sophomore qualify in the event as well. Newcomer Kiera Bragdon (Haddam, Conn.) opened the race for Simmons, before Quinlan and Driscoll swam the middle lengths ahead of Singleton, who anchored the race and touched the wall at 1:48.16 to give the quartet a 21st-place showing.
