Manjikian Named GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week Again

Simmons University diver Sara Manjikian Class of 2021

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Sara Manjikian (Belmont, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of November 4-10, it was announced by the league.

Manjikian earns the honor for the second time this season after previously being tabbed for the week of October 21-27. She becomes the first diver in school history to earn the accolade multiple times in one season and has now received the honor three times for her career. The award marks the fourth straight week that a Shark has earned the top swimming & diving weekly athlete award, including Manjikian's efforts and senior Áine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) also being selected twice.

Manjikian won both diving events to give her a meet-high 18 points and broke a school record in the team's 188-112 loss to visiting Wellesley College on November 9. The junior tallied 250.30 points in a six-dive set on the one-meter board to eclipse the former mark of 241.65, set by Kaira King in 2009. The Nursing major followed that effort up with a first-place showing on the three-meter board after scoring 227.55 points to win the event by more than 23 points.

A graduate of Belmont High School, Manjikian has placed either first or second in every meet she's competed in this season, including a pair of first-place finishes on both the one and three-meter boards to go with second-place showings in both the one and three-meter events at a quadruple dual meet with Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Brandeis University, Babson College and Smith College on November 1.

Manjikian has earned GNAC All-Conference honors in each of her first two seasons at the Fenway School after placing first on the three-meter board in both years at the conference championship meet. She currently holds the GNAC and school record on the three-meter board for an 11-dive set and also owns the school mark on both the one and three-meter boards for a six-dive set as well. In addition, Manjikian earned All-NEISDA status last season.

Simmons is currently 2-5 on the season and will compete again on Saturday, November 16 when it travels to Biddeford, Maine to take on University of New England at 12:00 p.m.
