Simmons Soccer Falls to Lasell 3-2

Simmons College soccer fell to GNAC foe Lasell College on Saturday afternoon.  Freshman midfielder Jordynn Frollo assisted on two consecutive goals to pace the Lasers.  Sophomores Anya Bottaro (Winchester, Mass.) and Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) both scored goals for the Sharks. With the loss, Simmons falls to 2-5-1 (GNAC 1-1), while Lasell improves to 2-3 (GNAC 1-2).

Simmons College soccer fell to GNAC foe Lasell College on Saturday afternoon.  Freshman midfielder Jordynn Frollo assisted on two consecutive goals to pace the Lasers.  Sophomores Anya Bottaro (Winchester, Mass.) and Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) both scored goals for the Sharks. With the loss, Simmons falls to 2-5-1 (GNAC 1-1), while Lasell improves to 2-3 (GNAC 1-2).

The Sharks took a 1-0 lead at the 13:08 mark in the first half, when sophomore Anna Stella (Sharon, Mass.) sent a crossing pass to Brooke MacKenzie which she blasted in the lower left corner of the net, scoring her third goal of the season.  In the 22nd minute sophomore forward Allyson Bushey scored Lasell's first goal off a deflection in the box to tie the game, 1-1.

In the second half, Bottaro's goal came three minutes into the period off a pass from MacKenzie.  Bottaro, who was on top of the box, fired a shot from 20 yards out to give Simmons a 2-1 lead.  It marked Bottaro's first collegiate goal.  At the 79th minute mark Lasell freshman Meredith Hessler took an indirect kick by Frollo and knocked it into the back of the net to tie the game, 2-2.  With eight minutes remaining in regulation Frollo served an indirect kick from 35 yards out to junior Alyssa Ferreri, who tipped the ball into the lower left corner of the net to give Lasell a 3-2 lead and victory.

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, September 24 when they face cross-street rival Emmanuel College, last year's GNAC Tournament Champions at 7:00 p.m. at the Winsor School Field.
