  • Simmons Crew Alumnae Spotlight: Malyka Ianni ‘05

    Malyka Ianni ’05 has logged thousands of miles in the rower’s unrelenting pursuit of speed and technique. A former Simmons Crew team student-athlete and 7-year member of Riverside Boat Club in Cambridge, Ianni now rows for Potomac Boat Club in Washington, D.C. and continues to train to achieve her goal of representing the United States in International competition.
  • Kurmakov Medals at Royal Canadian Henley

    Simmons Crew Head Coach Nikolay Kurmakov took first place in the Men’s Masters F single on Sunday, July 31, the second day of racing at the Royal Canadian Henley Masters Regatta in St. Catherine’s, Ontario.
  • Six Rowers Named 2011 CRCA Scholar Athletes

    Six varsity rowers on the Simmons Crew team have been named 2011 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar Athletes. Seniors Amanda DeRosa (East Lyme, Conn.), Melissa DeRosa (East Lyme, Conn.), Amanda Milad (Rye, N.H.), Moira Quinn (Cumberland Foreside, Maine); junior Emily Hagens (Champaign, Ill.) and sophomore Anna Rowse (Pepperell, Mass.) all received the honor.
  • Purcell Selected to 2011 Division III Pocock All-America Team

    Simmons Crew sophomore Audrey Purcell (Newton, N.J.) has been selected to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Pocock All-America Second Team for the 2011 season. This award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions. Purcell receives this honor in just her second year of rowing after walking onto the team as a freshman in the fall of 2009.
  • Nine Rowers Named ECAC NIRC Scholar Athletes

    Nine athletes from the Simmons Crew team were named to the 2011 ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championship Steward’s All-Academic Team for maintaining a 3.35 cumulative GPA after one year of rowing at the varsity level.
  • Sharks Strong at NERC, Place 8th Overall

    Simmons College Crew turned in a strong showing at the 2011 New England Rowing Championships on Saturday, April 30 at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. After tight racing in the morning heats, the Novice Four and Third Varsity Eight qualified for the Grand Finals, while the Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Eight both raced to spots in the Petite Finals. The Sharks finished in 8th place in points among women’s teams.
  • Simmons Crew Participates in Earth Day Cleanup

    Simmons Crew put aside their oars and picked up trash bags to give back to the environment as a part of the 12th annual Charles River Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 16. Along with members of Riverside Boat Club and the community, the entire team of 33 athletes combed the banks of the Charles River to spruce up the Magazine Beach area adjacent to the boathouse. The cleanup followed Simmons Crew’s victories on the river earlier in the morning.
  • Crew Sweeps MIT, Buffalo
    April 17, 2011
    Simmons Crew raced to two first place finishes on a blustery Saturday on the Charles River basin. The raw conditions of 20mph wind and rolling whitecaps were additional opponents to the crews from MIT Lightweights and Buffalo Lightweights, but the Sharks were able to handle the elements and emerge on top.
  • Sharks Race at Clark Invitational

    Simmons Crew returned to Worcester, Mass. on Sunday to compete in the Clark Invitational on Lake Quinsigamond. The Sharks lined up against crews from Mount Holyoke, Clark, Franklin & Marshall and Union to race in sunny spring weather and a moderate to strong cross-headwind.
  • Crew Races Well at Donahue Cup

    Simmons Crew traveled to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the WPI-hosted Donahue Cup on Saturday. In a battle of women's nationally and regionally ranked crews, top-rated Williams took home the Varsity Eight title, followed by eighth-ranked WPI in second place, and Simmons in third. The Engineers, ranked 14th in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll, finished ahead of Connecticut College and Franklin & Marshall in the regatta on Lake Quinsigamond.
  • Sharks Open Season at Tufts

    Simmons College Crew traveled to the Malden River on Saturday to race Tufts, Vermont, Mount Holyoke and Tulane. The Sharks fielded three varsity eights and one novice eight, each racing twice, and ended the day with solid results to open the 2011 season.
  • Crew Spring 2011 Preview

    Simmons College Crew is poised to open the spring 2011 racing season with back-to-back racing on Saturday April 2 and Sunday April 3. The Sharks will travel to Tufts on Saturday to face the Jumbos, as well as crews from Mount Holyoke, Vermont and Tulane. On Sunday, Simmons will travel to Holy Cross to line up against the Crusaders and Wesleyan on Lake Quinsigamond.
  • Sharks Capture Second Place at Seven Sisters Regatta

    Simmons Crew raced to a second place team finish at the 2010 Seven Sisters Regatta with 28 points, after finishing third in 2009. The Sharks were boosted by wins from their two novice entries, and two fourth-place finishes from their varsity crews. For the second season in a row, Wellesley College secured top honors, collecting 34 points en route to their third overall title. Rounding out the five-team field were Smith College (26), Mount Holyoke (24) and Bryn Mawr (9). This season’s regatta was hosted by Mount Holyoke College on the Connecticut River.
  • Crew Fall 2010 Season Preview

    Simmons Crew is set to open the fall 2010 season on Sunday at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell, Mass. This season follows on the heels of a Spring 2010 campaign in which Simmons Crew was ranked 11th nationally among NCAA Division III programs after strong showings from each of the three Varsity Eights in the final weeks of the season. The high point of the spring was the Varsity Eight’s 7th place national ranking and an ECAC Women’s Crew of the Week award after victories over Smith, Wellesley and Tufts at the Malden River Spirit Regatta.
