  • Sharks Add New Shell to Fleet
    September 30, 2010
    Simmons Crew gathered together with over fifty parents, alumnae, athletics staff and friends on Saturday, September 11, to dedicate The Sally Lee, a new racing shell donated to the team by rowing alumna Katie McGrath ’90. The shell, a Fludesign pair/double, can be rigged as a sweep or sculling boat, and will be used by Simmons Crew varsity rowers to fine-tune their technical skills.
  • Five Rowers Named 2010 CRCA Scholar Athletes

    Five Simmons rowers have been named 2010 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar Athletes. Senior Nicole Gallant (Scotia, N.Y.) and juniors Amanda DeRosa (East Lyme, Conn.), Emily Hagens (Champaign, Ill.), Amanda Milad (Rye, N.H.) and Moira Quinn (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) all received the honor from the CRCA. To be considered, athletes must have had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career through the fall semester of the current competition year.
  • Crew 2010 Season Review

    Simmons Crew ended the spring 2010 season ranked 11th nationally among NCAA Division III programs after strong showings from each of the three Varsity Eights in the final weeks of the season. The high point of the spring was the First Varsity Eight’s 7th place national ranking and an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) Women’s Crew of the Week award after victories over Smith, Wellesley and Tufts at the Malden River Spirit Regatta.
  • Simmons Crew Ranked 7th in the Nation

    The Simmons Crew Varsity Eight was ranked seventh in the nation among Division III crews, according to the April 28 USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) poll. The Sharks, unranked in last week’s poll, took the #7 spot from the Smith College Varsity Eight, after besting the Pioneers at the Malden River Spirit Regatta on April 24 at Tufts.

    Simmons Crew’s Varsity Eight was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) Women’s Crew of the Week for April 26, 2010.
  • Simmons Varsity Eight Captures Friendship Cup

    The Simmons Varsity Eight upset crews from Wellesley and Smith College en route to capturing the Sharks’ first victory in the third annual running of the Malden River Spirit Regatta on Saturday, April 24. Simmons’ Second Varsity Eight fell to Wellesley and Tufts, while the Third Varsity Eight also grabbed a pair of wins over Wellesley and Smith. With the win, the Sharks take home the Friendship Cup over top-ranked Division III crews heading into the Championship racing season.
  • Crew Ranked 9th in New England

    Simmons Crew’s Varsity Eight was ranked ninth in New England, according to the New England Rowing Championships weekly Coaches Poll. The ranking follows last weekend’s strong showing at the Donahue Cup in Worcester, Mass., where the Sharks placed second to Williams, and ahead of WPI and Connecticut College. The ranking ties the highest Varsity Eight ranking in New England for Simmons since the 2008 season.
  • Crew Cranks Out Second Place at Donahue Cup

    Simmons Crew competed in the Barbara Donahue Cup, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute at Lake Quinsigamond, on Saturday, April 10 in Shrewsbury, Mass. In addition to host program WPI, Williams College and Connecticut College rounded out the Cup entries.
  • Crew Opens Season Against Smith, Holy Cross

    Simmons Crew opened the spring 2010 season with a set of races against Smith College and Holy Cross on Sunday, March 28. The Sharks traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. to race three varsity eights, and battled 15-20mph headwind and choppy water conditions throughout the course.
  • Crew Spring 2010 Preview

    Simmons Crew is prepared to open the spring 2010 racing season after a strong fall, in which the Varsity Eight captured first place at the Seven Sisters Regatta for the first time in program history. In the weeks before Simmons’ opening race, the Sharks’ Varsity Eight has been ranked 11th in the nation by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing in a preseason poll. The ranking, Simmons’ highest, ties the Sharks' 11th-place ranking at the conclusion of the 2009 spring season.
  • Crew Takes Silver at Textile River Regatta

    Simmons Crew opened the fall head racing season on Sunday with a second-place finish in the Women’s Club 8+ at the Textile River Regatta. The race, held in Lowell, Mass., celebrated its 30th anniversary with a record 510 entries and a shortened course due to low water levels in the Merrimack River.
  • Crew Fall 2009 Preview

    Simmons Crew will open the fall 2009 season on Sunday, October 4 when the team travels to Lowell, Mass. for the Textile River Regatta. The Sharks closed out a successful spring season in May when the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Novice Eight competed at the ECAC National Invitational Regatta. The Varsity Eight ended the season with an 11th place national ranking among NCAA Division III crews, the highest ranking Simmons has achieved in the 31-year history of the crew program.
