Le Named GNAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for Third Time

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced by the GNAC today.


WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College women's tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam/Matignon HS) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 15-21, it was announced today by the league. The award marks the second time that Le has earned the honor. She was also named the top weekly rookie for the week of September 1-7.

Le has been named a league-high five times. She was also honored for the weeks of September 1-7, September 15-21 and each of the last three weeks. The Sharks? first year Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I.) was also tabbed for the week of September 8-14.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College women's tennis player Han DK Le (Tra Vinh, Vietnam.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week it was announced by the league today. She has earned the league's top rookie honor a league-high three times. She was also named the top newcomer for the weeks of September 1-7 and September 15-21. 

In two matches, the first year posted a perfect combined record of 3-0, including 1-0 in singles action in a pair of 9-0 dual match victories for the Sharks. A graduate of Matignon High School (Mass.), Le did not drop a game in any of her matches, breezing at third singles at Mount Ida College, 6-0, 6-0, while teaming with sophomore Tatiana Yugay (Westborough, Mass.) to win at number two doubles, 8-0 on October 10. The rookie came back two days later to partner with sophomoreCathy Baker (Simsbury, Conn.) to win in second doubles action at Albertus Magnus College, 8-0. 

Le has been one of the top players in the league, posting a combined 11-2 record for the season, including 7-2 in singles action at the week's end. Her 11 wins tie for the second most on the squad. The Vietnam native has not lost a match since September 10 and has won a combined nine straight matches. She is 5-0 in singles matches combined at the number three, four and five spots in the lineup. Le has dropped just one game or fewer in four of her singles wins, while winning a pair of doubles matches without losing a game this season. 

Simmons defeated Colby College earlier today and is now 10-2 overall, including 6-0 in GNAC play. The Sharks finished the conference slate without a loss for the seventh straight season and have won 52 straight regular-season league matches and will be in action again tomorrow when they host Emerson College at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center at 3:30 p.m.
