Rowing Opens Season With The Head of the Kurmakov

BOSTON – Simmons rowing opened the 2023-2024 season competing in the Head of the Kurmakov, named after longtime Simmons and Riverside Head Coach Nikolay Kurmakov, on Sunday morning.

The Sharks took to the water in the Women's Collegiate Four. While the rain held off for the morning race, Simmons began the season under overcast skies. Junior coxswain Olivia Murray paced the Varsity 4+ boat to a 21:48.2 time.

ABOUT THE HEAD OF THE KURMAKOV
The Head of the Kurmakov is the second race of best-of-three series, called the Head of the Kevin. Since 2021, the second race of the series has been named the Head of the Kurmakov in honor of former Simmons Head Coach and Riverside Boathouse Coach Nikolay Kurmakov, who passed away, unexpectedly, in October, 2020. 

UPDATE
Simmons returns to the water on Sunday, Oct. 1 when they travel to Lowell, Massachusetts for Textile River Regatta.
