Varsity Eight Finishes 15th for Crew at 50th Head of the Charles Regatta

BOSTON, MA - The Simmons College crew varsity eight overcame five other crews to finish 15th overall out of 30 entries at the historic 50th Head of the Charles Regatta this afternoon in Boston, Mass.

BOSTON, MA - The Simmons College crew varsity eight overcame five other crews to finish 15th overall out of 30 entries at the historic 50th Head of the Charles Regatta this afternoon in Boston, Mass.

The crew from Bates College won the event in a time of 17:25.60 with the Sharks just under 63 seconds behind.

The Sharks varsity eight consisting of first year Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.), junior Jill Bolduc (Methuen, Mass.), senior Nicole Poirier (Wayland, Mass.), first year Erin Lilienthal (East Lyme, Conn.), juniors Chelsea Foster (Avon, Conn.)Sophie Stone (Greenland, N.H.)Allie Belanger (Blackstone, Mass.) and first year Phoebe Knox (Scituate, Mass.) were directed by sophomore coxswain Olivia Smiaroski (Northfield, Mass.).

Crew Warming Up Before 50th Head of the Charles

The Simmons shell powered past its home boathouse at the Riverside Boat Club with a time of 4:24.26 to sit in 20th place, but moved up to 18th once they hit Weld Boathouse at 10:24.52. The Sharks continued to make strides through the course, hitting the Cambridge Boathouse at 15:34.62 to edge up to the 17th spot, before turning in the ninth-fastest time in the final stretch with a mark of 2:53.55 to finish 15th with an overall time of 18:28.18 to place just over a second ahead of Mount Holyoke College.

The Sharks will race again on Sunday, October 26 when they compete in the Seven Sisters Championship hosted by Wellesley College at 10:00 a.m.
