Najimy Leads Cross Country at NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Sophomore Alice Najimy (Pittsfield, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Simmons University women's cross country team, placing 126th this afternoon at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship at Pickard Fields in Brunswick, Maine. 

The Sharks placed 38th as a team with a score of 1166 points on the six-kilometer course in their final meet of the season. Williams College turned in the top score with a mark of 64, while sophomore Izzi Gengaro from Massachusetts Institute of Technology posted a time of 21:19.10 to win the individual crown. 

Najimy shaved three seconds off her personal-record time, clocking in at 23:52.87. She was one of five Simmons runners to record personal-best 6K times for the day. 

Junior Ellen Malloy (Acton, Mass.) turned in a time of 25:50.69 to finish 240th, while senior Gabby Freeman (Newnan, Ga.) topped her previous best time by 40 seconds to finish 269th with a mark of 26:35.32. Junior Chloe O'Hara (Westminster, Mass.) was right behind at 26:40.80 to eclipse her previous best time by 21 seconds to place 271st

First year Julia DiGiacomo (Franklin, Mass.) shattered her personal-best by 87 seconds, posting a time of 26:58.10 to finish 284th, while classmate Clare Thompson (Marshfield, Mass.) bettered her previous personal-record time by 67 seconds for a time of 28:04.71, finishing 306th overall. Junior Elena Dickey (North Andover, Mass.) posted a time of 29:17.01 to place 333rd for the Sharks.
