Amber Verrill, CSCS returns to Simmons as the Sports Performance Coach at the beginning of the 2022-2023 academic year after serving as an assistant soccer coach for the Sharks for multiple years. 

In her new role, Verrill will work directly with all nine Simmons varsity athletic programs and coaches. She will work to develop athlete programs to address the needs of the team as well as specific to the individual athlete to allow them to compete at their optimum level. Verrill will also provide support and education regarding sports nutrition and psychology to student-athletes. In addition, she will regularly communicate with athletic trainers to discuss risk management, energy system development and return to play protocols. 

Away from Simmons, Verrill has served as the head strength and conditioning coach at Flight Performance and Fitness. She had direct oversight of three coaches, who provided programs and coaching for athletes of all levels from high school to professional athletes. Additionally, Verrill was a guest lecturer in the graduate Physical Therapy program, speaking on the importance of communication strategies between healthcare providers and fitness professionals to better the outcome for individuals’ return to sport activity. Away from strength and conditioning, Verrill spent time as a youth soccer coach for the U8 Boys team in Windham, Maine and seven years coaching with the Special Olympics in southern maine. 

During her time as an undergraduate at Simmons, Verrill was one of the most cerebral players on the field in her four-year career in goal. She enjoyed great success, posting a 1.22 goals against average in over 800 minutes of action, while owning a 5-1-0 record, including a pair of shutouts. Over her career she helped the Sharks to a 29-16-0 GNAC mark and reach the postseason each season, including a championship game appearance in 2012. 

Verrill graduated from Simmons in 2016 with a  Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and completed a pair of strength and conditioning internships with Northeastern University and Flight Performance and Fitness. She also founded and owns Ambitious Strength, a strength and conditioning company that focuses on providing coaching services for new and seasoned powerlifters looking to keep up with their competitive nature.
