Soccers Drops Tough Conference Match to Elms

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons soccer (2-7-1, 1-4-0 GNAC) dropped a tough Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match tonight falling to Elms College (3-4-2, 2-2-1 GNAC), Wednesday evening.

The Sharks won the battle of possession over the Blazers, keeping the ball within their control 51% of the time – compared to the Blazers' 41%. However, it was Elms that broke scoreless contest at the midway point of the first half. Following a free kick, outside the 18-yard box, Kayla Pasquel drilled the ball just out of the reach of junior goalkeeper Marita Nothacker in the 22nd minute.

Simmons remained composed and kept up with Elms. Not long after the Blazer goal, the Sharks looked poised to score the equalizer. First-year Kayla Noonan ripped a shot directly towards goals, but Elms goalkeeper Angela Picheo came up with the same. Moments later, junior Sydney Neumuth ripped a shot wide right as the Blazers took the 1-0 lead in to the half.

Emerging from the locker room at the start of the second half, Elms tacked on an insurance goal seven minutes into the period. Coming up the middle of the field, Caroline Wilcox connected with Pasqual in front of the net for her second goal of the game and give the Blazers a two-goal cushion.

But it was more than enough for Elms to pick up its third win of the season. Picheo recorded three saves to improve to 2-2-1 on the season, while Nothacker took the loss, despite registering seven saves on the evening.
