Soccer Overpowered by Saint Joseph's College of Maine

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons soccer (2-5-1) fell to Saint Joseph's College of Maine (2-4-0) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Daly Field.

Coming off their previous match, the Sharks had a renewed sense of determination against St. Joe's. However, the Monks started their offensive attack early in the first few minutes of the first half, giving junior goalkeeper Marita Nothacker and the defense a great deal to handle. The Sharkers defenders did their best to stop the constant pressure until Madison Michaud of St. Joe's scored in the 12th minute of play.

After that, Simmons began to find some momentum with a few opportunities on goal, but nothing led to the score being tied up. Both defenses strongly held up their side of the field for the rest of the half. The Sharks finished the half with three shots on goal and were down by just one goal.

When the whistle blew for the second half, Simmons was ready to play. With two shots on goal by first-year Emma McEwan and junior Mo Grant within the first few minutes, the tide looked like it was turning in a good direction for the Sharks. Nonetheless, St. Joe's put a roadblock in their opponent's comeback by scoring another goal in the 55th minute, from Claudia Janelle. Simmons kept their heads up and continued to play strong for the rest of the game, but St. Joe's was just too much to overcome.
