Soccer Falls to Johnson & Wales in Tough Conference Battle

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Simmons soccer (2-4-1) dropped back to 1-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action falling to defending champion Johnson & Wales (4-2-1), on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats didn't miss a beat once the whistle was blown, with Kylie Schmidt scoring within the first minute of play. The fast-paced offensive attack became a constant threat to the Sharks defense, especially for junior goalkeeper Marita Nothacker, who notched 13 saves on the day. Johnson and Wales went on to score four more goals before the half ended.

Simmons came out of halftime with intensity to try to stop the Wildcats offense, but it was too much to overcome. Johnson and Wales would go on to keep firm control of the game by scoring three more goals in the second half. Although, the Sharks were defeated, they played hard until the final whistle.

Nothacker finished the game with a 13 saves on the day, tying her season-best this year.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Goalkeeper Marita Nothacker had 13 saves out of the 21 shots on goal.
  • Senior Captain Izabella Warren had one shot for the offense, adding another to her career shot total.

GAME NOTES:

  • The Wildcats outshot the Sharks, 39-1 and gained 19 corner kick opportunities.
