Curry Snaps Soccer's Two-Game Win Streak

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons soccer's (2-3-1) two-game win streak came to a halt at the hands of non-conference Curry College (4-2-0) at Daly Field on Wednesday evening.

The Colonels made their presence known and kept the pressure on the Sharks from the beginning with back-to-back goals. However, despite Curry maintaining possession in their offensive zone for the majority of the first half, the Simmons defense battled, keeping the ball from reaching the net.

Junior goalkeeper Marita Nothacker rejected eight shots on net in the first half, before Curry was able to break the tie in the 38th minute. With under 10 minutes to play in the half, the Colonels' Sydney Resendes found Smanatha Borges coming up the near side of the field for her fifth goal of the season and put Curry up, 1-0.

Simmons emerged from the locker room at the start of the second half with renewed energy and their best scoring opportunity of the night. Running up the nearside of the field three minutes into the period, first-year Emma McEwan ripped a bullet towards the lower quadrant of the goal. But Colonels goalkeeper Hanna Correa came up with the save to preserve the shutout.

With under 10 minutes remaining in the game, Curry added an insurance goal off the foot of Resendes. Sprinting up the middle of the field, Resendes added a goal to her first half assist to put the Colonels up, 2-0.
