Soccer Falls to Johnson & Wales in GNAC Action

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons soccer (1-6-0, 1-2-0 GNAC) fell to Johnson & Wales (5-3-1, 3-0-1 GNAC), 7-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday evening.

The Wildcats jumped on the board early in the opening two minutes. Emily DeRoehen knocked a header in the upper left corner of the net in the first minute to give Johnson & Wales the 1-0 advantage. They added to their lead in the 22nd minute when Hayley Viebrock drilled a penalty kick in the lower corner of the net to give the Wildcats at 2-0 advantage.

However, the Sharks did not give up. Late in the period with under five minutes to play, Rachel Hogan sprinted up the far sideline, pulling Wildcat goalkeeper Shannon Stockero out of net, and buried the ball into the nearside corner to cut the lead in half.

Coming out half, trailing by only one, Johnson & Wales added an insurance goal. Olivia Cairrao pushed the lead back to two scoring in the 49th minute. The Wildcats broke the game wide open from there, as Jordan Restivo registered a natural hat-trick to seal their fifth win of the year.
