Simmons held a slight 18-17 shooting advantage with each team holding a decided margin in each half. Anna Maria outshot the Sharks, 13-7 in the opening half, before the Simmons offense controled the second stanza with an 11-4 count. The Sharks also maintained a 4-1 corner kicks margin for the match.

Junior midfielder Emma Trahant (Lynn, Mass.) set up Martin for her second marker of the season in the 18th minute of play for a 1-0 Simmons lead. Trahant sent a cross down the field to Martin, who beat a defender and the keeper for the eventual game-winning goal at 17:22.

Anna Maria looked to score earlier in the match with a pair of shots within a four-second span from sophomore forward Briana Riley (Bluffton, S.C.) and classmate Ashley Rufo (Pittsfield, Mass.), but were both denied by Colman.

Senior midfielder Kristen Mihalich (East Rockaway, N.Y.) helped pace the Sharks attack with five shots, including four on frame, while sophomore midfielder DeAnna Baker (Landsdale, Pa.) fired four shots, including a shot off the crossbar, to lead the AMCATS.

Neither team was able to score for the remaining 72-plus minutes of action. Colman turned away all 11 shots she faced to register her second collegiate shutout for Simmons. Sophomore keeper Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) stopped one of four shots in the first 23:34 of play for Anna Maria, before yielding to first year Alice Yokabaskas (Farmingdale, Maine), who turned back all seven shots she faced in the final 66:26 of action.
