BOSTON, Mass. – First year midfielder Izabella Warren (Hillsboro, N.H.) scored the game-winning goal with 4:31 left in overtime to give the Simmons University women's soccer team a 3-2 victory over visiting Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play this afternoon on Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 1-9-1 overall, including 1-6-0 in league play, while the Saints fall to 5-7-0 and 4-2-0.

Emmanuel owned a 16-14 shot margin for the match and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks for the day.

Warren received the ball on the left side and dribbled the ball to the left post, where she weaved her way around two defenders and unleashed a shot into the far right post for her third marker of the year and the game-winner for Simmons.

The Sharks looked to score in the 20th minute of the first half when junior forward Cierra Martin (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) made a move around the keeper to give her an open net, but her shot was a bit too strong to the left to keep the match scoreless. Simmons again looked to get on the board just over a minute later, but a shot lifted off the foot of junior Nell Spencer (Buxton, Maine), that was ticketed for the upper left post, was kept out of frame by the Saints keeper.

Emmanuel converted its fortunate defensive momentum to the offensive side of the pitch, resulting in the first score of the contest. Junior midfielder Sydney Allen (Charlestown, R.I.) served a cross on a corner kick to first year forward Jill Kutash (Mattapoisett, Mass.), who directed a shot off a Sharks defender and into the back of the net for her third goal of the season in the 24th minute of play.

Simmons was quick to counter, scoring less than three minutes later, to knot the game at 1-1. The Sharks were awarded a free kick and junior midfielder Emma Trahant (Lynn, Mass.) took advantage, firing a shot from eight yards out over the Saints wall and into the right side of the net for her first tally of the season with 18:39 left in the opening half.

Simmons kept its offensive pressure on and added another goal before the end of the half to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. Senior forward Amber Nobbs (Granville, Mass.) sent a cross to the goalmouth, where Martin was waiting in front of the net and sent her second marker of the year into the back of the frame with 10:09 showing on the first half clock.

The Sharks maintained their lead for the first 16 minutes of the second stanza until junior back Hannah Sheskey (Scituate, Mass.) lofted a high shot from 20 yards out that carried the Simmons goalie over her line for the Emmanuel equalizer and her third goal of the season at 61:04 of the second half.

Neither team was able to score in the final 28 minutes, despite three shots on frame from the Saints.

First year keeper Melanie Colman (Holliston, Mass.) stopped seven shots to record the victory for the Sharks, while rookie goalie Alyssa Crugnale (Middleton, Mass.) turned away two of four shots in the opening half for Emmanuel, before yielding to sophomore Kennedy Davignon (Woodstock, Conn.), who made a pair of saves in the final 50:29 of action.

Simmons returns to action on Friday, October 11 when it travels to Northfield, Vt. to take on GNAC foe Norwich University at 5:00 p.m., while the Saints head to Nashua, N.H. on the same day for a 6:00 p.m. conference tilt with Rivier University.
