BOSTON, Mass. -- The Simmons University women's soccer team made the most of its shots, but was edged by visiting Lesley University, 3-2, this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 0-3-1 on the season, while the Lynx improve to a perfect 4-0-0.

Lesley dominated play with a 23-3 shot advantage and owned a 10-1 margin on corner kicks.

Sophomore midfielder Kayleigh Chicas (Chatsworth, Calif.) netted a penalty kick in the 84th minute of play to give Lesley the eventual game-winner with her first marker of the year for the Lynx with 6:15 left to play in the match.

Simmons faced a 2-0 deficit, but came back in the second half to knot the contest at 2-2.

The Sharks cut the deficit in half when senior midfielder Kristen Mihalich (East Rockaway, N.Y.) sent a cross to the left side of the box, where classmate Amber Nobbs (Granville, Mass.) ripped a shot from 15 yards out through the outstretched hands of the Lesley keeper and into the back of the net on the right side to make it 2-1 at the 55:17 mark.

Simmons knotted the match at 2-2 in the 64th minute of play. Graduate student Lauren Brandau (Madison, Conn.) played the ball to first year midfielder Izabella Warren (Hillsboro, N.H.), who fired a shot from 20 yards into a vacated right side of the net for her first collegiate goal.

The teams played scoreless soccer for all but 30 seconds of the opening half, before Lesley sophomore forward Chloe Kouyoumdjian (La Canada, Calif.) sent a short cross to sophomore back Kerrie Larson (Bristol, R.I.), who lifted a shot from 20 yards into the upper right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead before halftime.

The Lynx doubled their lead just 80 seconds into the second stanza. First year forward Macey Melo (Clovis, Calif.) lifted a corner kick in front of the net, where junior midfielder Maddy Deitrick (Burnet, Texas) connected on a header that landed in the upper right corner, just out of the Simmons keeper's reach for a 2-0 lead.

Sophomore goalie Remington Hasley (San Diego, Calif.) made one save to earn the victory for the Lynx, while first year keeper Melanie Colman (Holliston, Mass.) stopped five shots for the Sharks.

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when they head across the city to take on Suffolk University for a noon match to open the Great Northeast Athletic Conference slate, while Lesley hosts Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the same day at 6:30 p.m.
