BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University women's soccer team was defeated, 3-0, by visiting University of Massachusetts Boston this afternoon at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks fall to 0-2-1 on the season, while the Beacons improve to 3-1-0.

UMass Boston dominated play with a 26-2 shot advantage, including an 11-0 effort in the opening half. The Beacons also held an 8-2 margin on corner kicks.

Sophomore back Dani Anderson (St. Augustine, Fla.) put the Beacons on the board at the 13:22 mark with her first collegiate goal after firing a shot from the top of the box to just inside the far post. UMass Boston wasted no time in padding its lead when sophomore forward Grace McGettrick (Marshfield, Mass.) followed with her team-leading third marker of the year just 81 seconds later to give the visitors a 2-0 margin. Sophomore forward Grace Oliver (Rockland, Mass.) sent a cross into the box that classmate Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.) put her head on to send the ball onto McGettrick's foot in front of the net for the score.

Oliver set up sophomore midfielder Allie Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) with a through ball from midfield that she collected inside the box and then beat the Simmons keeper with a shot at the 80th minute of play to set the final at 3-0 for the Beacons.

The Sharks received a shot each from junior forward Cierra Martin (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) and first year Riley Wasiuk (Rutland, Mass.).

First year keeper Maria Spylios (Leominster, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced to post her first collegiate shutout for UMass Boston. Simmons rookie netminder Melanie Colman (Holliston, Mass.) turned away 10 shots for the Sharks.

Simmons returns to action on Wednesday, September 11 when it hosts Lesley University for a 7:00 p.m. tilt on Daly Field, while the Beacons travel to Babson Park, Mass. on September 10 to take on Babson College at 4:00 p.m.
