BOSTON, Mass. – Following a full 90 minutes and a pair of 10-minute overtime periods, neither the host Simmons University women's soccer team, nor visiting Suffolk University were able to score in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match, resulting in a 0-0 tie this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks are now 7-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in league play and run their unbeaten streak to eight straight contests for their longest string since 2011, while the Rams are 2-7-1 and 2-5-1. 

Simmons owned a 15-12 shot advantage, including 5-1 in the overtime periods and also edged Suffolk in corner kicks, 6-5. 

The Sharks looked to score early in the second overtime when senior forward Mikayla Elliott (Lowell, Mass.) broke free and carried the ball into the goalmouth, but the Rams first year keeper Allison Rodrigues (North Andover, Mass.) was able to come off her line and meet Elliott before she could attempt a quality strike. Simmons senior back Erin Fleming (West Boylston, Mass.) put a shot on net with a free kick from just inside midfield with 13 seconds left in the second overtime, but Rodrigues was there to end the threat once again. 

Sharks senior midifielder Cíara Forde's (Quincy, Mass.) shot, with 22 ticks left in the first overtime, was denied on an acrobatic save in the air by Rodrigues as one of her nine stops for the match. Suffolk's only chance of the extra time came 2:23 into the first overtime session when sophomore forward Caleigh O'Brien (Wilbraham, Mass.) put a shot on net that Simmons senior goalie Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) turned away to keep the contest scoreless. 

Sophomore midfielder Addisyn Lanza (Madison, Conn.) and senior midfielder Veronica Bernardo (Ludlow, Mass.) each fired shots on goal in the final four minutes of regulation for the Rams, but Williams saved both attempts. The pair of shots capped a second stanza that saw Suffolk hold a 7-4 shot margin. 

Williams finished the night with eight saves for her fourth career shutout, while preserving the first 0-0 tie for the Sharks' since November 2 in the 2014 GNAC Tournament Quarterfinals vs. Johnson & Wales University. Rodrigues registered her second shutout of the year. 

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, October 6 when it hosts GNAC rival Lasell College on Daly Field for an 11:00 a.m. match, while the Rams host GNAC foe Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on the same day at 3:00 p.m.
