Williams Named GNAC Women's Soccer Goalie of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalie of the Week for the week of September 17-23, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Lauren Williams (Bowdoinham, Maine) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Goalie of the Week for the week of September 17-23, it was announced today by the league. 

Williams becomes the first Shark to earn the honor since Casey Halle was chosen for the week of September 26 to October 2, 2016. 

In two matches, the senior picked up a pair of conference wins, logging 168:33 minutes of action, while allowing three goals for a 1.60 goals against average to go with an .824 save mark with 14 saves. 

A graduate of Mount Ararat High School, Williams began the week by stopping nine of 10 shots in 96:22 minutes of action to help preserve a 2-1 victory at University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on September 19. The netminder capped the week by stopping five of seven shots in 72:11 of action in a 3-2 win over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on September 22. 

For the season, Williams has seen action in seven matches, while playing 618:33 minutes to rank fifth among GNAC keepers. She has posted a 1.46 goals against mark to go with a .792 save percentage to stand seventh in the GNAC for both categories. Williams also has a shutout on the season and has made five or more saves on five occasions. The goalie has been outstanding in her last four matches, recording a sparkling 1.03 GAA and an .826 save mark in 348:33 of action. 

Williams has played in 1057:02 minutes over 17 matches during her three-year tenure at Simmons. She owns a 0.94 goals against average, which is the second-lowest for any keeper with over 1,000 minutes played at the school. Williams has also registered a .817 save percentage with 49 stops, while owning a 5-3-1 record, including a pair of shutouts.

The Sharks are currently riding a four-match win streak and are 4-3-0 on the season, including 3-1-0 in league play, and will be in action again tomorrow night when they take on Newbury College for a 7:00 p.m. tilt at Daly Field.
