Sharks Top Mustangs, 6-1 in GNAC Soccer

NEWTON, Mass. -- Simmons soccer defeated the Mount Ida College Mustangs, 6-1 Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Six different Sharks put their mark on the scoreboard as Simmons moves to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the GNAC.

Kristyn Heuslein (Manchester, N.H.) controlled a through ball to the middle from Greer Gilbert (Falmouth, Mass.) and beat Mustangs goalkeeper Kaitlyn Berube to the lower left side for her third goal of the year. Ten minutes later, Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) buried a shot past Berube from 30 yards out to double the score.

At 31:10 in the first half, Heuslein served up a corner kick and Gilbert found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. Just under eight minutes later, sophomore Keri Acheson (Peabody, Mass.) gave the Sharks a 4-0 lead, beating the Mustangs netminder top right.

Briana Tomaselli scored the lone goal for Mount Ida at 40:28 of the first half.

In the second stanza, Ali Berkman (Natick, Mass.) and Melissa DiTraglia (Cranston, R.I.) each slipped shots past the Mount Ida defense for their first collegiate goals to end the scoring, 6-1.

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, October 3rd at Emerson at 5:30 p.m.
