Junior Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) scored two goals for the Sharks as Simmons outlasted DeSales in the blazing heat on Saturday. The Sharks are now 3-0 on the season, while DeSales drops to 0-2.

MacKenzie, unassisted, found the back of the net 10:41 into the first half, and was answered by a goal from DeSales' Tori Kinek off a Nicole Pietrobon pass just five minutes later.  The Bulldogs outshot the Sharks in the first half 15-10, but goalkeeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, N.H.) stayed busy, saving six shots before halftime, and making 9 saves total on the day. At halftime, the score remained tied at 1-1.

Simmons emerged blazing in the second half, with MacKenzie again slipping a shot past the DeSales keeper 4:20 in for Simmons to take the 2-1 lead. Almost 30 minutes later after Simmons and DeSales battled evenly back and forth, the Bulldogs' Jena Meaney scored unassisted with 13 minutes remaining to tie the match once more, 2-2.

Digging deep for the win, the Sharks stepped up the pressure on Bulldogs goalkeeper Melissa Millili as Simmons outshot DeSales in the second half, 13-11. Junior Lindsey Butler (South Weymouth, Mass.) finally connected with an Allie Megna (North Hampton, N.H.) pass to score for the Sharks and take a 3-2 lead. DeSales was unable to answer in the remaining 12 minutes.

Freshman Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) tallied two shots on goal, while junior Brittany Staszowski (Lenox, Mass.) also had two on the day.

Simmons will face Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Saint Joseph's Maine on Monday, September 7 at 1:00pm.
