Simmons junior Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) got the ball into the danger zone on a free kick with one minute remaining. Junior Lindsey Butler (South Weymouth, Mass.) stepped up for the Sharks with pressure on the Mustang defense as keeper Meghan Begins made the stop. The ball bounced loose from her hands, and Ayotte was there to collect the rebound and shoot it back into the net to lift the Sharks to 1-0 and decide the game.

Simmons controlled the ball for most of the afternoon, outshooting the Mustangs 30-5. Keeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, N.H.) recorded her third shutout of the season, making 1 save with the help of Sharks defenders Brittany Staszowski (Lenox, Mass.) and junior captain Katie Foley (Rochester, N.H.).

Mount Ida's Begins made 9 saves on the day, denying all Sharks attempts until the 11th hour.

Simmons will return to action when they travel to Lasell on Wednesday, September 23 for a 4:00pm conference match.
