Simmons traveled to compete in the Wellesley College Invitational on Saturday, and faced the hosts in the opening round. Wellesley first-year Chelsea-Ann Patry (Warrenton, VA) scored in the 68th minute of play to lead the Blue to a 1-0 win over Simmons.

Senior soccer captain and keeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, N.H.) has earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the conference announced on Monday evening.

After a scoreless first half in which Wellesley out-shot the Sharks, 14-5, Patry took a pass from classmate Tristen Chin (Duxbury, Mass.) and knocked it past the Simmons defense. The goal, Patry's first collegiate score, turned out to be the game-winner.

Simmons had an opportunity to tie the game just two minutes after Wellesley went ahead when freshman Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) took a solid shot in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, Beauchamp hit the crossbar and the Blue lead was preserved.

Simmons' goalkeeper Rachel Elliot (Amherst, N.H.) racked up 13 saves in the contest to keep the Sharks in the game.

In goal for the hosts, Katie Martore (Great Falls, VA) and Sarah Gray (Montclair, VA) split time in the shutout win. Martore picked up three saves, while Gray recorded five stops.

The win improves Wellesley to 1-2 on the season, while Simmons falls to 3-2-1.

The Blue advance to the championship of the Invitational taking place tomorrow at 2:30pm. Wellesley will face SUNY New Paltz who defeated Salem State, 2-0. Simmons and Salem State will meet in the consolation at 12:00 on Sunday.
