Simmons Soccer picked up their second GNAC win against Mount Ida Tuesday afternoon, with a final score of 2-0.  The Sharks improve to 3-6-1 and 2-2 in the GNAC.

Simmons came out firing, converting their second shot on goal to take the 1-0 advantage 5:30 into the contest. Sophomore Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, MA) collected a pass from fellow sophomore Allie Megna (North Hampton, NH) and tucked it into the left side of the net. This would be the first of two hook-ups for MacKenzie and Megna during the game.

Goal number two came with nine minutes remaining in the half off another conversion from Megna to MacKenzie. This gave the Sharks the outright 2-0 lead and MacKenzie her second goal of the match. The score would eventually hold up, giving the Sharks the victory after a slow second half for both teams.

Mount Ida only had one legitimate opportunity to net a goal, coming in the second stanza when Elise McLear (Swansea, MA/Case) hammered a ball from the left side of the 18-yard box that sailed high and over the crossbar.

"Coming into this game, our team knew that it was critical for us to pick up a conference win," said Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo. "Missing a handful of players to class conflicts, the entire group came together and fought hard for the GNAC win.

"Katie Foley played another dominant game in the back allowing only 7 shots on goal with only one being a true threat. The end of the match became very physical but our team maintained composure and came away with the win. We are looking at the result of this game to propel us into Saturday's match against Emerson."

Simmons out-shot the Mustangs 12-7. Sharks keeper Rachel Elliott (Amherst, NH) stopped two shots, while Mount Ida goaltender Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT) denied three. One caution was issued to the Mustangs.

The Sharks will return to action on Saturday, September 4 at 12:30pm, away against Emerson College.
