The game was tied 0 – 0 at halftime, with Simmons goalkeeper Rachel Elliott (Amherst, NH) making two strong saves to keep MIT off the board in the first half. The Engineers scored in the 50th minute off a cross from the right side from Liz Theurer to Edith Reshef, who made a streaking run on the weakside far post.

Elliot made seven saves, but it wasn't enough in the face of MIT's dominating attempts on goal, as they outshot Simmons 8-3.

Head Coach Erica Mastrogiacomo noted Sarah Danforth's (North Berwick, ME) relentless efforts in the first half as an outside midfielder that gave the Sharks their best opportunities on goal.

Mastrogiacomo is pleased with the team's progress as the Sharks head into conference play. "The team is really coming together and it is clear that we have built trust and confidence throughout preseason."

Simmons Soccer will be back in action on Saturday, September 6 at 1pm, at home against Salve Regina.
