GRAND LAKE, Colo. -- The Simmons University women's lacrosse team was named a 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Zag Sports Honor Squad in addition to seniors  Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) and Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) and junior Kristen Mihalich (East Rockaway, N.Y.) being named to the Academic Honor Roll, it was announced today by the IWLCA.

The Sharks were one of 173 NCAA Division III programs to earn a team grade point average of 3.00 or better to earn the honor. Simmons posted a 3.54 team GPA and has been recognized for its academics by the IWLCA following each of the past seven seasons.

The IWLCA honored 653 student-athletes on the 2019 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.

Bragg and Maiewski both earn the accolade for the second straight year, while Mihalich is tabbed in her first year of eligibility. While all three of the Sharks achieved the minimum cumulative career GPA, each of them performed particularly well in the classroom for the 2018-19 academic year with each student-athlete turning in GPAs of 3.65 and higher, including a perfect 4.0 from Mihalich in each semester.

Simmons finished the season with a 10-7 record, including 7-4 in league play to tie the program standard for overall and conference victories. The Sharks earned the fifth seed in the GNAC Championship Tournament and advanced to the semifinals, before bowing to eventual champion Johnson & Wales University on May 1.
