BOSTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) netted her third goal of the night just 64 seconds into overtime and sophomore goalie Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) stopped 18 shots to help lead the Simmons University women's lacrosse team over visiting Curry College, 9-8, this evening at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-2 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 3-2. 

Curry controlled the offensive possession with a 34-20 shot advantage, including 17 in each of the first two halves, but Simmons made the most of its shots, and took the only two attempts of the overtime period with the Colonels down a player due to a yellow card incurred just before the end of regulation. 

Bragg finished the night with three goals, four draw controls, two ground balls and a caused turnover. Cross registered a season-high in saves, including 11 in the second half and a stop with 52 seconds left to play in regulation to keep the contest even before the extra period. Seniors Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) and Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) each tallied three points on two goals and an assist, while Cottam picked up three ground balls, won four draws and caused a turnover and Maiewski scooped up a pair of ground balls and caused two turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) also netted a pair of goals to go with two ground balls, two draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers. 

First year attackers Andria Torres (Milford, Conn.) and Sharon Doherty (North Easton, Mass.) paced the Curry offense with three goals apiece. Torres also added an assist, three ground balls and a caused turnover, while Doherty picked up a ground ball and won a pair of draws. Junior attacker Courtney Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) scored a pair of goals in addition to three ground balls. Junior middie Abby Dubel (Wolfboro, N.H.) came up with a game-high five ground balls and caused a turnover. First year goalie Jessica Ginaitt (Warwick, R.I.) turned away nine shots, including one in the overtime period for the Colonels. 

Simmons junior midfielder Kingley Richards (Lexington, Mass.) picked up a loose ball in the Curry defensive zone to thwart a clear attempt with just over two minutes to play in the overtime period. The Sharks moved the ball until Maiewski possessed from behind the net, before finding Bragg in front of the cage for the game-winner with 1:56 left to play in the extra period. 

Simmons set the sudden-victory overtime up by scoring twice in the final five minutes, while the defense held the Colonels to just one shot in the final 6:35 of the second half. Richards found Maiewski for her eighth goal of the season at the 4:54 mark to pull the Sharks to within 8-7. Cottam knotted the contest at 8-8 when she came through with a free-position score coming just 65 seconds later with 3:49 showing on the second half clock. Simmons looked to win the contest in regulation, but Ginaitt denied a free-position strike from junior midfielder Amina Mansouri (Revere, Mass.) as time expired. 

Curry opened the night's scoring when Torres scored on a free-position shot at the 23:55 mark of the first half. The teams traded the first six goals of the contest with the Colonels scoring and the Sharks answering each time. Reinhold, Maiewski and Bragg all scored for Simmons, while Torres sandwiched two scores around a Doherty marker for Curry. The Sharks took their first lead of the evening when Cottam converted a free-position opportunity with 2:48 to play in the half. Simmons looked poised to take a one-goal margin into the break, but Doherty took advantage of the Sharks being down a player and scored with just one tick left on the opening half clock to make it 4-4 at the intermission. 

Bragg found the back of the net early in the second half to give Simmons a 5-4 lead, but the Colonels ripped off three straight goals to take a 7-5 lead, behind goals from Torres, Doherty and Lima. 

Reinhold cut the deficit to 7-6 with a free-position goal for the Sharks with 13:31 remaining in the second half, but Lima took a feed from sophomore attacker Katie Parker (Branford, Conn.) and scored her second goal to restore the two-goal lead for Curry at the 10:33 mark, before Simmons tied the contest with two late goals. 

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, March 23 when they head to Weston, Mass. to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Regis (Mass.) at 1:00 p.m., while Curry hosts Emmanuel College (Mass.) on March 21 at 6:00 p.m.
