Lacrosse Routs Anna Maria, 23-1

PAXTON, Mass. -- Sophomore midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) and senior Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) each tallied five points apiece to lead the Simmons University women's lacrosse team to a 23-1 victory over host Anna Maria College today in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at AMCAT Stadium in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-3 and 0-3.

PAXTON, Mass. -- Sophomore midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) and senior Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) each tallied five points apiece to lead the Simmons University women's lacrosse team to a 23-1 victory over host Anna Maria College today in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at AMCAT Stadium in Paxton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the AMCATS fall to 0-3 and 0-3.

The score marked the most goals scored by a Simmons team since the Sharks defeated Albertus Magnus College, 25-2, on March 22, 2014.

Simmons dominated play with a 39-5 shot advantage, including 17-1 in the second half, while winning 20 of 24 draws for the match. The Sharks also owned a 27-8 margin in ground balls and prevented Anna Maria from getting across the field, holding the host squad to just 3-17 on clearing attempts. 

Reinhold scored four times and added five ground balls and a pair of draw controls, while Maiewski netted three goals to go with three ground balls and a caused turnover for Simmons. Sophomore attacker Cindy Murphy (Revere, Mass.) scored the first three goals of her collegiate career and senior Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) also found the back of the net three times in addition to a game-high seven draw controls and a ground ball. Senior Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) tallied four points, including a pair of goals, won five draws and came up with two ground balls. First year Lilly Devitt (Belmont, Mass.) contributed with two goals, an assist, four ground balls and a draw control. Sophomore goalie Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) stopped both shots she faced in the first half, while Erin McIntyre (Cumberland, R.I.) allowed a goal in the second half for the Sharks.

Simmons owned a 13-0 lead at hafltime, including three goals from Maiewski, and scored the first nine goals of the second stanza to take a 22-0 cushion with 4:18 to play. Anna Maria got on the board with a goal from Alyssa Vacca with 1:45 remaining in the contest. First year Brianna Sanchez (Dracut, Mass.) closed out the scoring with her first collegiate goal coming with just seven ticks left on the second half clock for the Sharks. 

Simmons returns to action on Tuesday, March 19 when it hosts Curry College at Daly Field in a 7:00 p.m. start.
