Reinhold Leads Lacrosse over Albertus Magnus, 11-3

NEW HAVEN, Conn. ? Sophomore midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the Simmons University women?s lacrosse team over host Albertus Magnus College, 11-3, today in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 0-2 and 0-1. 

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) scored four goals and assisted on another to lead the Simmons University women's lacrosse team over host Albertus Magnus College, 11-3, today in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. The Sharks improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Falcons fall to 0-2 and 0-1. 

Simmons outshot Albertus Magnus, 31-17, including 22-8 in the second half and forced the Falcons into 29 turnovers. 

Reinhold added four draw controls, a ground ball and a caused turnover for the Sharks, while senior midfielder Elena Bragg (Belmont, Mass.) scored twice and added two assists and a ground ball. Seniors Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) and Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) and junior Amina Mansouri (Revere, Mass.) each registered a goal and an assist with Cottam adding a game-high four ground balls and a pair of assists. Sophomore defender Kelsey Benedict (Cecil, Pa.) also contributed on the defensive side with four ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore goalie Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) registered her second win in less than 24 hours with seven saves in 60 minutes of action. 

First year attacker Alexis Lape (Bristol, Conn.) led Albertus Magnus with a goal and an assist, while first year midfielder Madison Neilander (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior attacker Kaitlyn Ellsworth (Tolland, Conn.) each tallied a goal as well. Junior midfielder Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) came up with a game-high seven draw controls in addition to three ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior goalie Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) turned away 12 shots for the Falcons. 

Simmons scored the first seven goals of the game, including the only four markers of the first half. Reinhold, Maiewski, Cottam and Bragg combined to score four goals in a three and a half minute span to take a 4-0 lead with 22:06 to play in the opening session. The Albertus Magnus defense matched the Sharks defense as neither team was able to put another goal on the board for the remainder of the half. 

Bragg, first year attacker Maegan Neelon (Scarborough, Maine) and junior midfielder Kingsley Richards (Lexington, Mass.) each found the back of the net for the first three tallies of the second half to give Simmons a 7-0 advantage with 22:14 to go in the contest. Lape put the Falcons on the board on a feed from junior middie Korina Zelaya (Trumbull, Conn.) at the 20:19 mark to end the Sharks' shutout streak at 99:41. 

Reinhold bookended a pair of goals around a score from Mansouri to give Simmons a 10-1 cushion with 15:24 to play in the match. Albertus Magnus scored two of the final three goals of the match to make it an 11-3 final. 

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, March 13 when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on conference foe Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 p.m., while the Falcons play the same day, hosting University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 12:00 p.m.
