Crew Varsity 8 "A" Places 10th at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta

SHREWSBURY, Mass. - The Varsity 8 "A" squad placed 10th at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta to lead the Simmons College crew team this morning on Lake Quinsigamond at the Donahue Rowing Center in Shrewsbury, Mass.

The varsity 8 "A" shell consisting of first year Ronnie Bennett (Pottstown, Pa.), junior Jill Bolduc (Methuen, Mass.), senior Nicole Poirier (Wayland, Mass.), first year Erin Lilienthal (East Lyme, Conn.), juniors Chelsea Foster (Avon, Conn.)Sophie Stone (Greenland, N.H.) and Allie Belanger (Blackstone, Mass.) and first year Phoebe Knox (Scituate, Mass.) took direction from senior coxswain Emme Rosenberg (Pittsburg, Pa.) to finish with a time of 16:20.05 on the two and a half mile course. The Bates College "A" team won the race with a time of 15:05.85.

The Sharks' "B" crew finished 23rd with a time of 17:52.99 powered by junior Abi Smith (Brookline, Mass.), sophomore Mellyssa de Paiva (Várzea Grande, Brazil), junior Alexa Gallishaw (Seekonk, Mass.), first year Michelle Crosier, junior Rachel Corning (Ipswich, Mass.), seniors Laura Matt (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Eva Weber (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Kendall Olivia Trautman (Raynham, Mass.) with sophomore coxswain Olivia Smiaroski (Northfield, Mass.) leading the way.

Simmons' Novice 8 "A" entry crossed the finish with a mark of 20:43.62 to finish 14th with a shell propelled by first years Kat Cline (Carlton, Ore.), Elizabeth Rea-Wilson (Concord, Mass.), Wren Tenore (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Zahra Dhanerawala (Monmouth Junction, N.J.), sophomore Brie Houghton (Barre, Mass.), first years Natalie Moore (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Eleanor Pullan (Northampton, Mass.) and Elsbeth Colson (Everett, Mass.) and coxswain Clarice Johnson (Norwell, Mass.). The Worcester Polytechnic Institute Novice 8 "A" squad finished first with a time of 17:45.80.

The Novice 8 "B" crew for Simmons placed 20th behind the effort of first years Kait Fierlit (Hamden, Conn.), Rachel Wadkins (Winthrop, Mass.), Jessica Dawicki (Shelburne, Mass.), Sophie Ulyatt (Edgartown, Mass.), Aliya Jaber (West Orange, N.J.), Alexa Frongillo (Franklin, Mass.), Karina Bercan (Derry, N.H.), Erica Bartle (Arlington, Mass.) and first year coxswain Emily Alpert (Marlboro, Mass.) en-route to a time of 23:11.85.

The Sharks will compete again on Sunday, October 19 when they compete in the historic 50th Head of the Charles.
