  • Del Vacchio named to 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team

    Simmons University's Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) has been named to the 2020 Academic All-District® Softball Team selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Del Vacchio earned a spot as a member of the NCAA Division III District 1 Softball First Team.

    WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University’s Maddie Castigliego (Bristol, R.I.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 9-15, it was announced today by the league.

  • Softball Sweeps Montclair State (3-1 W) and Bridgewater State (8-7 W); Hennessey Collects 100th Hit

    CLERMONT, Fla. – The Simmons University softball team walked off with an 8-7 victory in the bottom of the eighth inning over Bridgewater State University after a 3-1 win over Montclair State University today at Legends Way Ballfields as part of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Sharks finish their abbreviated season with an 8-2 mark for the best start in school history, while Bridgewater State falls to 3-5 and Montclair State slips to 10-2. 
  • Castigiego, Hennessey Lead Softball over Bates, 1-0

    CLERMONT, Fla. – Sophomore starting pitcher Maddie Castigliego (Bristol, R.I.) hurled a six-hit shutout and senior center fielder Molly Hennessey (Charlton, Mass.) collected three hits, including the game-winning single to give the Simmons University softball team a 1-0 victory over Bates College this afternoon at Legends Way Ballfields as part of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Sharks win their fifth straight game to improve to 6-1 on the season for their best start since the 2008 season, while the Bobcats have their four-game win-streak snapped at four in a row. The shutout marked the first time since March 30, 2019 – a span of 28 games -- that Bates had been held without a run. 
  • Softball Falls to Carroll, 4-1

    CLERMONT, Fla. – The Simmons University softball team fell to Carroll University (Wis.), 4-1, this evening at Legends Way Ballfields as part of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Sharks five-game win streak comes to an end as they fall to 6-2 on the season, while the Pioneers win their 10th straight game to improve to 13-1. 
  • Bott, Castigliego Lead Softball to Sweep over Plymouth State (4-1) and Delaware Valley (8-5)

    CLERMONT, Fla. – Junior Christie Bott (Seaford, N.Y.) went 5-6 and knocked in seven runs, while sophomore pitcher Maddie Castigliego (Bristol, R.I.) allowed just five hits over nine innings en-route to earning a win and a save to lead the Simmons University softball team to a 4-1 victory over Plymouth State University and an 8-5 win over Delaware Valley College today at the Hancock Recreational Complex in Clermont, Fla. as part of THE Spring Games. The Sharks win their fourth straight game to improve to 5-1 on the season for their best start since the 2014 season, while Plymouth State falls to 5-4 and Delaware Valley slips to 0-8.

    LEESBURG, Fla. – Simmons University pitching allowed just seven hits and no earned runs in softball wins over Nebraska Wesleyan University, 3-1, and Gordon College, 7-0, today at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla. The Sharks improve to 3-1 on the season for their best start since 2016, while Nebraska Wesleyan falls to 3-4 and Gordon slips to 0-6. 
  • Bott, Del Vacchio Lead Softball in Split with 19-10 Win over Penn State-Berks and 4-2 Loss to Defiance

    LEESBURG, Fla. – Junior Christie Bott (Seaford, N.Y.) hit a grand slam and set a school record with five runs in a game, while senior outfielder Lauren Del Vacchio (Murrieta, Calif.) collected multiple hits in both games for the Simmons University softball team. The Sharks opened their season with a 19-10 win over Pennsylvania State University-Berks, before bowing to Defiance College, 4-2, in the second game today at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla. as part of the Spring Games. Simmons is now 1-1 on the season, while Penn State-Berks is 0-3 and Defiance is 3-3.
