BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis (0-1) dropped its opening game of the 2023-2024 season falling to Roger Williams (1-0), 9-0, on Friday afternoon.
The Hawks jumped out in front to an early 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles. Senior Sara Fucillo and first-year Ainsley Foster took a pair of games from Izzy Pecora and Ella Mancini in third doubles before falling 8-2. In first doubles, the Sharks tandem of first-year Emilie Lapointe and junior Julia Perconti showed a tremendous amount of fight, claiming a game from Giannna Ferraro and Alessia.
In the singles portion of the competition, Lapointe grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first set against Ferraro. However, Lapointe was unable to hold onto the lead, falling 6-2, 6-3. Junior Emily Lopez gave Pecora a tough fight in third singles. Despite drop the first set, 6-2, Lopez hung tough, stealing a game from Pecora in the second set before falling, 6-1.

Simmons returns to the courts for a Labor Day shoot out on Monday, September 4 when they travel to Gordon College for a match at noon.
