Zhizhin Secures First GNAC Player of the Week Honors of the Year

WINTHROP, Mass. – Junior Olga Zhizhin was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, announced by the league Monday afternoon.  

Zhizhin posted a 2-1 singles record from the top spot of the Sharks lineup to help Simmons open the fall season at 2-1 following back-to-back victories against Gordon College (Saturday) and Salem State University (Sunday). Against the Fighting Scots, she knocked off Caroline Hemer in two sets (6-0, 6-3) in first singles, then the following day she picked up another two-set victory over Salem States' Samantha Tenney (6-1, 6-3). In doubles, Zhizhin earned the first doubles victory over Salem State with an 8-1 win alongside partner Vanessa Camargo.  

Simmons returns to the courts on Wednesday, September 7 when they host non-conference Suffolk University at 3:30 p.m. at Daly Field.
