Tennis Blanks Eastern Nazarene to Secure Post-Season Spot

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis (7-3, 5-1 GNAC) clinched a first-round bye in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) post-tournament following a 9-0 shutout against Eastern Nazarene College (2-7, 2-3 GNAC), Wednesday afternoon at Daly Field. 

The Sharks opened the day with a sweep of doubles. Third doubles partners Libby Weed and Avery Halloran blanked Mya Landry and Krista Signs, 8-0, while seniors Megan McKeever and Sarah Mariski won second doubles, 8-1. Reigning GNAC Player and Rookie of the Week Leah Bonis and Olga Bonis got the best of Maria Busila and Katie Cawthorne in first doubles, 8-3.

In the singles portion of the day, McKeever shutout Krista Signs in two-sets, 6-0, 6-0, while Halloran won sixth singles, 6-1, 6-0. Zhizhin bested Busila in first singles by a score of 7-5, 6-2 as Bonis was able to make quick work of Jenna Schlosser in second singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Simmons returns to the courts on Saturday, Oct. 9 when it hosts non-conference Clark University at noon.
