WINTHROP, Mass. – For the second straight week, Simmons tennis swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors. Junior Leah Bonis and sophomore Olga Zhizhin received Player and Rookie of the Week recognition as they led the Sharks to 1-1 week.

Bonis posted a 1-1 singles record and 1-0 doubles record in two matches against Smith College and GNAC foe the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.). On the road against the Blue Jays late in the week, Bonis defeated USJ's Emily Kerr in two sets (6-2, 6-3) in second singles to help the Sharks sweep singles, 6-0.

Zhizhin secured Rookie of the Week honors posted a 1-1 singles mark from to the top spot of the Simmons lineup. Zhizhin helped the Sharks to a come-from-behind road victory over USJ on Saturday earning a two-set, (6-2, 6-4) win over Kathleen Gillard in first singles.

Simmons returns to the courts on Wednesday, Oct. 6, hosting Eastern Nazarene in its final conference match before the post-season at 4 p.m.
