Smith Snaps Tennis' Two-Match Win Streak

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis' two-match win streak was at the hands of non-conference Smith College following 9-0 loss, Wednesday afternoon at the Daly Field tennis courts.

The Pioneers jumped out to early lead with a straight sweep of doubles. In third doubles, Leah Bonis and Sam Margolin made Joyce Lee and Steph Lopez work hard for the sweep, taking the match to 12 games before falling 8-4.

In the singles portion of the completion, Sarah Mariski forced Alexa Manoi to a third set. After dropping the first set of third singles, 6-3, Mariski took the second set, 6-4, before falling in a tie-breaker, 10-6. Sophomore Olga Zhizhin battled Jen Fan tough in first singles, but was unable to pull out the victory, falling 6-3, 6-4.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Leah Bonis and Sam Margolin were a solid doubles team taking Smith's Joyce Lee and Steph Lopez to a 12th game before falling, 8-4.
  • Sarah Mariski forced a game three in third singles winning the second set, 6-4.
