McKeever's Three-Set Win Propels Tennis to Victory over Regis

WESTON, Mass. – Senior Megan McKeever picked up a three-set win in fifth singles to give Simmons tennis (5-2, 3-1 GNAC) a 5-4 victory in a pivotal Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match against Regis College (4-3, 3-1 GNAC), Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks started the day on the right foot with a clean sweep of doubles to take a quick, 3-0 lead. Senior Leah Bonis and junior Libby Weed made quick work of the Pride's Samantha Gevry and Stephanie Beatrice winning third doubles, 8-3. The veteran first doubles duo, McKeever and Sarah Mariski downed Katelyn Mogelnick and Kaeleigh Fitzpatrick, 8-6, while first-year Avery Halloran and sophomore Olga Zhizhin won second doubles by the same score.

The doubles sweep proved to be pivotal for the Sharks as the Pride took four of the six singles matches. But Simmons only needed to win two. Mariski downed Beatrice in two sets (6-4, 6-1) in third singles before the crowd of Sharks rallied together to cheer on McKeever to help her to the three-set (6-4, 0-6, 7-6) win in fifth singles.
