Tennis Overwhelms Lesley to Climb Over .500 in GNAC Play

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons tennis (4-2, 2-1 GNAC) returned to its winning ways following an 8-1 victory over Lesley University (0-3, 0-5 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Sharks began the day with the six singles matches. Megan McKeever made quick work of Annie Dai in fourth singles with a two-set, 6-0, 6-1 win while Avery Halloran was able to do the same in fifth singles. After a tight first set where Sarah Mariski squeaked out the 7-6 (3) win over Morgan Anderson to take 1-0 lead, Mariski blanked Anderson in the second set to pick up the two-set win.

In first singles, the Lynx's Brooke Whitten made Leah Bonis battled to pull out the 6-3, 7-5 win., while Libby Weed won third singles over Joselyn Martinez, 6-1, 6-4. 

Simmons swept the doubles portion of the afternoon led by second doubles tandem Bonis and Weed. The pair knocked off Martinez and Dai, 8-3. Mariski and McKeever took first doubles 8-4, while Sarah Fucillo and Avery Halloran edged out Jordan Blair and Carolyn Brazil in the third doubles, 8-6.
