Tennis Bested By Colby-Sawyer; Falls to .500 in Conference Play

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Returning to courts with a midweek Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match, Simmons tennis (3-2, 1-1 GNAC) fell to Colby-Sawyer (3-1, 1-0 GNAC), 9-0, Wednesday afternoon at Daly Field.

 The Chargers jumped in front early with a sweep of doubles. Simmons' first doubles tandem, Sarah Mariski and Megan McKeever made it difficult for Colby-Sawyer's Grace Carpenter and Emily, taking the Charger duo to 14 games before falling 8-6. First-years Leila Spires and Avery Halloran battled hard in third doubles before falling, 8-2, to Amira Eid and Amelia Campanella. 

In the singles portion of the competition, the Chargers took first and second singles with ease, but the Sharks saw some highlights later in the lineup. At sixth singles, Spires made Campanella work for the two-set win before falling 6-2, 6-4. While the reigning GNAC Rookie of the Week, Halloran was solid in her fifth singles match against Eid.

SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sarah Mariski and Megan McKeever was solid first doubles tandem for the Sharks, taking the Charger to 14 games.
  • Avery Halloran's fifth singles loss to Amira Eid was her first singles loss of the season. She fell, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Fellow first-year Leila Spires played solid at sixth singles against Amelia Campanella.

Simmons breaks from conference play when they travel west to Mount Holyoke College Saturday, Sept. 18 for a 3 p.m. match. Note to spectators, this match will be played indoors and no spectators will be allowed.
