Johnson Named to GNAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Singles Second Team

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Second Team for singles play, it was announced today by the league. 

Johnson previously received All-Conference recognition as a sophomore when she was named to the Second Team for doubles play. 

The senior was excellent at number two singles within conference play this season, posting a 4-1 record as part of an overall 6-3 mark. The Norwell High School product dropped a total of just one set combined in all of her victories this season and put together a four-match win streak from September 2-14. Her only loss in conference play came in a three-set contest against eventual GNAC Champion Eastern Nazarene College. Johnson also posted a 1-1 record at number one singles. The team Captain surrendered just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win vs. Suffolk University on September 28. 

The four-year standout posted a combined record of 11-10, including 5-7 in doubles action. 

The Nutrition and Dietetics major is currently 45-65 for her career, including 20-28 in singles action and has posted a 10-7 lifetime singles mark against GNAC opponents, while going 11-10 in doubles play vs. league foes. 

The Sharks were defeated in the GNAC Championship Tournament Semifinals by Johnson & Wales University and return to the courts on Friday, April 10 when they host Emerson College on Daly Courts at 4:00 p.m.
