MILTON, Mass. -- First year Leah Bonis (Bath, Maine) and sophomore Megan McKeever (Stamford, Conn.) each won a pair of matches to lead the Simmons University women's tennis team over host Curry College, 8-1, this afternoon at the Trent J. Scott '96 Tennis Courts in Milton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 4-6 on the season, while the Colonels fall to 0-11.

Simmons swept doubles play, including a forfeit loss at number three singles, to take a 3-0 lead and then sealed the match with a pair of forfeit victories at fifth and sixth singles.

McKeever teamed with classmate Sarah Mariski (Portland, Maine) to earn an 8-3 win at first doubles for the Sharks over the Curry first year duo of Sophia Wiernusz (Collegeville, Pa.) and Natalie Valvo (Hermosa Beach, Calif.). Bonis picked up her first win of the day at number two doubles with Simmons junior Carrie St. Peter (Chester, N.H.) with an 8-3 decision over the Colonels junior combo of Allison Daigle (Edgartown, Mass.) and Samantha Gilbert (Bedford, Mass.).

Bonis and McKeever didn't drop a set in singles play for the Sharks with Bonis registering a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at third singles over Valvo, while McKeever posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at fourth singles over Gilbert. Senior Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam/Saint Joseph Preparatory (Mass.)) lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 effort at number one singles over Wiernusz.

Daigle won the final match of the day for the Colonels with a 6-4, 6-2 showing over Mariski to set the score at 8-1.

Simmons returns to the courts on Saturday, September 28 when it takes on Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Suffolk University in a dual match to be played at Daly Courts in Brighton, Mass. at 12:00 p.m., while Curry hosts Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Roger Williams University on the same day at 12:00 p.m.
