Tennis Falls in Regular Season Finale at Endicott, 6-3; Cokely Reaches 30 Wins

BEVERLY, Mass. - Senior Meg Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) won her 30th combined match of the season as a double-winner for the Simmons College women's tennis team in a 6-3 loss to host Endicott College this morning on the South Campus Tennis Courts in Beverly, Mass. The Sharks fall to 10-8 on the season, while the Gulls improve to 14-3.

BEVERLY, Mass. - Senior Meg Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) won her 30th combined match of the season as a double-winner for the Simmons College women's tennis team in a 6-3 loss to host Endicott College this morning on the South Campus Tennis Courts in Beverly, Mass. The Sharks fall to 10-8 on the season, while the Gulls improve to 14-3.

Cokely (13-3 singles, 17-5) won at number two singles to even the dual match at 2-2 for Simmons, defeating first year Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine), 6-3, 6-0. The win was her 30th of the year with 13 singles triumphs and 17 doubles victories on the season. She also combined with junior Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio) (10-5 singles, 17-5 doubles) to earn an 8-3 win at first doubles over Andreasen and first year Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) to open the match. Reinhard was also a double-winner for the Sharks, taking down Barnett at first singles, 6-2, 6-4 to pull the visitors to within 5-3.

First year Ashley Chen (Hilo, Hawaii) (8-8 singles, 10-14 doubles) battled hard all morning for Simmons, taking Endicott junior Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) to three sets before falling at fifth singles in the final match of the day to give the Gulls a 6-3 final. Chen won the opening set, 6-4, but fell in the second, 6-0, before Rhodes took the third frame, 10-7. Chen partnered with senior Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) (8-8 singles, 13-10 doubles) at second doubles in a 9-7 loss to Rhodes and junior Jamie Zompa (Marlborough, Mass.). Downey was beaten at fourth singles by first year Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.), 6-2, 6-0.

The Sharks duo of senior Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.) (8-7 singles, 9-8 doubles) and sophomore Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I.) (1-3 singles, 8-12 doubles) suffered an 8-4 setback to Endicott first year duo of Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.). Crowley fell at number three singles to Fitzgibbons, 6-4, 6-4. Junior Ashley Pierce (Carver, Mass.) (6-7 singles, 3-2 doubles) battled in the first set at sixth singles with first year Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.), but fell in the frame, 6-4, before losing the second set, 6-1.

Simmons will be off until the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on May 12 with the opponent, time and location all to be determined.
