The Sharks, who garnered key points with wins in two of three doubles, move to 2-0 overall for their best start in 10 years, while the Lyons slip to 1-1 after the four-hour match.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Simmons College women's tennis team was defeated by host number 13 nationally-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 9-0, this afternoon in Cambridge, Mass. The Sharks end their regular season with a 16-4 record, while the Engineers complete their regular season with a 15-5 mark. Simmons will compete again on May 8, when it competes in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

MIT dropped just one game in doubles action. Sophomore Elysa Kohrs (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) and junior Victoria Tam (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) combined to defeat the Simmons due of sophomore Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio) (10-11 singles, 13-7 doubles) and junior Meg Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) 17-5 singles, 11-8 doubles) at number one doubles, 8-0. The Engineers' pair of first year Sonya Das (Arden Hills, Minn.) and senior Michelle Dutt (Gurnee, Ill.) was also untarnished at number two doubles with an 8-0 win over juniors Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) (7-11 singles, 14-8 doubles) and Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio) (7-8 singles, 11-7 doubles). The Sharks duo of junior Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.) (15-6 singles, 16-6 doubles) and first year Han DK Le (Tra Vinh, Vietnam/Matignon HS (Mass.)) (15-5 singles, 13-2 doubles) took a game off of sophomore Krystal Lai (Irvine, Calif.) and first year Dora Tzeng (Fremont, Calif.) in an 8-1 defeat at third doubles.

Sophomore Ashley Pierce (Carver, Mass.) (1-2 singles, 4-1 doubles) took MIT senior Nina Yang (Tualatin, Ore.) to the limit at sixth singles, dropping the first set, 6-4, before rebounding to win the second set, 7-6 (5), but eventually fell, 10-6 in the third frame. First year Cindy Liu (Claremont, Calif.) took down Reinhard, 6-3, 6-0, at first singles for the Engineers, while sophomore Wendi Kong (Cupertino, Calif.) defeated Cokely at number two singles, 7-5, 6-2, for the home team. Dutt defeated Downey at number three singles with a 6-0, 6-4 showing and junior Iris Zhuang (Allen, Texas) dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph over Khoury at fourth singles to continue the MIT success. Junior Alana Peters (Kenilworth, Ill.) had to work for a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Crowley at number five singles.
