Sharks Sweep Blue Jays, 9-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis swept the visiting University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays, 9-0 this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action held at Harvard University.

Senior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) and Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) continued to dominate at the #1 doubles spot with an 8-0 victory over Emma Allen and Lisa Wawrzynowski. Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, Mass.) and Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) defeated Rebecca Mauri and Emely Chenard 8-4 at the number two position, while Emmy Snyder (New London, N.H.) and Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.) never dropped a point in an 8-0 win over Meghan Toth and Amanda Willhoft at the number three spot.

 

In singles action, Teague, Cokely and Sophie Epshtein (Newton, Mass.) swept their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, while Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio), defeated Mauri 6-2, 6-1 at number two, Crowley topped Serena Sundara, 6-1, 6-0 at number five singles and Maddie Theoharidis (Sedgwick, Maine) defeated April Loteczka, 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles.

 

The Sharks are now, 9-2 overall and 6-0 in the GNAC as the team heads to the NEWITT tournament this weekend.
