Sharks Fall to Babson, 8-1

BABSON PARK, Mass.?Babson College won two of three doubles matches and swept all six matches in singles play, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Simmons College in non-conference women?s tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Simmons tennis defeated the Johnson & Wales Wildcats, 7-2 to remain undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Sunday afternoon. 

WORCESTER, Mass. - Four Holy Cross women's tennis players won both of their respective singles and double matches, as the Crusaders defeated Simmons, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 6-8 on the season, while the Sharks fall to 13-3 overall. 

AMHERST, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College 5-2 in the first round of the 2014 Division III NCAA Tennis Championships Thursday afternoon at Amherst College.


BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College won two of three doubles matches and swept all six matches in singles play, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Simmons College in non-conference women's tennis action on Wednesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.

 

With the victory, Babson moved to 3-0 on the season while Simmons, which had its three-match winning streak halted, falls to 3-2 on the year.

 

The duo of senior Sarah Whitaker and junior Alexis Ferraro picked up an 8-3 win at number two doubles while junior Courtney Fischer and sophomore Tori Paolino paired to win 8-6 at number three doubles. The Sharks earned their lone point of the match at number one doubles, as senior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) topped junior Alex Freeman and first-year Dina Weick of Babson, 8-4.

 

The Beavers were dominant in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Freeman topped Teauge 6-1, 6-2 at number one singles, while Weick got past Reinhard 6-3, 6-1 at second singles. Whitaker used a second-set tiebreak to slip past sophomore Meghan Cokely at number three singles, 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Ferraro dropped just one game in her win at fourth singles, Paolino coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at number singles and Fischer had an easy time winning 6-2, 6-0 at sixth singles.

 

Babson is back on action on Thursday afternoon when they host Endicott at 3:30 p.m., while Simmons will play its fourth straight road match on Saturday when they travel to Colby for a 1 p.m. start.
