Sharks Capture First Win Over Lyons

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis captured their first win of the 2013 season with a 6-3 win over the Mount Holyoke College Lyons Monday afternoon. 

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis fell to the Bentley University Falcons 6-3 in a non-conference match at the Bentley tennis courts Wednesday afternoon.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Tennis captured their first win of the 2013 season with a 6-3 win over the Mount Holyoke College Lyons Monday afternoon. The Sharks (1-1) have defeated the Lyons (1-1) in the last four meetings of the two teams.

 

In doubles play, Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) paired up with Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) to defeat AnnElizabeth Konkel and Eman Malik 8-2 in the number one spot, while Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) and Sofie Epshtein (Newton, Mass.) defeated Margaux Holloschutz and Maya Sayarath, 8-3 at the number two position. Sophomore Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio) and first year Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio) completed the sweep with a 8-3 victory over Sarah Anischik and Kelsey Brower.

 

Up 3-0, the Sharks dominated the top three singles matches as Teague, Reinhard and Cokely each posted victories for Simmons. In the number four spot, Anischik defeated Epshtein after a three set battle, 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 and Malik and Brower each added wins for the Lyons.

 

The Sharks travel to their first away match of the season on Wednesday, Sep. 4 at Roger Williams. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m. The Lyons travel to Saint Joseph University on Thursday, Sep. 5 for a 4:30 start.
